Facebook has beat Sony for the right to stream La Liga football matches. Those in the Asian subcontinent India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Pakistan will enjoy all Football matches in the Spanish top league for free for the next three seasons.
From what I feel, it is in a bid to keep young people on the Social media platform. If you can remember Amazon acquired rights for the English Premier League Matches for 2019.
Actually, this is not the first time Facebook ventures in sports streaming. It started in 2017 after the company starting airing Major League Baseball games in the US. Another bid of $600Million was reported for Indian crickets right which was triumphed by Century Fox Inc.
Now you will get to watch live La Liga games even without paying for your cable subscription.
“We are really happy to be on a free-to-air service in such an important territory as the Indian subcontinent,” Alfredo Bermejo, La Liga’s head of digital strategy, told Reuters news agency ahead of the announcement.
“One of our goals for the last two years has been to offer content to the widest audience possible, so partnering with free platforms like Facebook, which has 270 million users in India, is key to us.”
La Liga revealed the news also on Twitter to affirm the news.
