Airtel 4G: Airtel Starts the Rollout of 4G LTE in Nigeria

Airtel is arguably one of the best networks in Nigeria wih good network coverage in vast locations. Although the 4G which was first revealed by MTN sometime ago was the first in Nigeria and we expected Airtel to join the trend after Etisalat and Glo decided to reveal its 4G Network.

Well, today the rollout of the 4G LTE for Airtel has begun! The Managing Director, Airtel Nigeria, Mr Segun Ogunsanya, said on Saturday that the telecommunications company has rolled out Fourth Generation (4G) wireless mobile telecommunications technology in Nigeria.

Ogunsanya said in a statement in Lagos that the roll out of the technology was in partnership with ZTE, a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment/systems company.

He said that in December, 2012, Airtel was the first telecommunications operator in the country to complete a successful 4G trial in Lagos.

According to him, this is in line with the company’s commitment to pioneer innovation and lead a mobile internet revolution in Nigeria.

“This is a new dawn for mobile internet in Nigeria.

Airtel and ZTE’s collaboration to roll out 4G service plan in Nigeria will dramatically improve mobile internet experience for telecommunications consumers across the country.

“Indeed, Airtel is committed to strengthening its position as a true pioneer of innovation in the Nigerian telecommunications domain.

“This is in line with our overall corporate vision of becoming the mobile Internet service provider of first choice for every Nigerian,” he said.

Regional Vice President of ZTE Corporation, Mr Zhang Ruigang, said that ZTE would cooperate with Airtel Nigeria to build the first-class 4G LTE network and provide the best long term service to Airtel Nigeria.

4G LTE is a truly global mobile phone standard for advanced mobile broadband.

Airtel’s 4G LTE aims to offer users faster, more reliable mobile broadband internet for devices like smart phones, tablets and laptops,” Ruigang said.

The rollout which has already commenced is expected to reach all parts of Nigeria before the end of May, 2017

Presently, they're confronting the outcomes of

Early this year a law firm laid the groundwork for this suit, and earlier this week, it made things official. The full details of the lawsuit focuses on two main issues.

MasterCard Unveils Card With Fingerprint Sensor

A payment card featuring a fingerprint sensor has been unveiled by credit card provider Mastercard. The rollout follows two successful trials in South Africa.

The technology works in the same way as it does with mobile phone payments: users must have their finger over the sensor when making a purchase. Security experts have said that while using fingerprints is not foolproof, it is a "sensible" use of biometric technology.

However, fingerprint sensors can be compromised. But Mr Nohl is cautiously optimistic about the technology, saying it is

"better than what we have at the moment".
"With the combination of chip and PIN, the PIN is the weaker element. Using a fingerprint gets rid of that."

Qualcomm Sues Apple, Stating Apple Made Intel's Modems Inferior

The chip maker stated that Apple is trying to use its power to force Qualcomm into lowering royalties for its own sake (via CNET): "Apple's goal is clear - to leverage its immense power to force Qualcomm into accepting less than fair value for the patented technologies that have led innovation in cellular technology and helped Apple generate more than $760 billion in iPhone sales," Qualcomm said in its filing.

Qualcomm, in its legal filing toady, spoke fondly of Apple and its effect on consumer technology: "Apple could not have built the incredible iPhone franchise that has made it the most profitable company in the world, capturing over 90 percent of smartphone profits, without relying upon Qualcomm's fundamental cellular technologies," Qualcomm said.

The more Apple innovates with unique features such as TouchID, advanced displays, and cameras, to name just a few, the more money Qualcomm collects for no reason and the more expensive it becomes for Apple to fund these innovations."
